Shangri-La Express from Lhasa, Tibet to Beijing
Explore Tibet's capital, Lhasa, and walk in the rarified air of this holy city, saturated with the scent of incense and yak-butter candles. From Lhasa on the Central Tibetan Plateau, travel the high altitude rail line down to Golmud and join the Shangri-La Express for the journey across China to Beijing.
Days 1-4: Lhasa
Upon arrival, rest and recuperate from the journey before embarking on three full days of touring around Lhasa, including the UNESCO-listed Potala Palace, the Dalai Lama's summer palace, and some time for bargaining at the local markets.
Day 5: Lhasa, descend to Golmud
Travel along the highest rail line in the world aboard a specially-built local Chinese train down to the city of Golmud. Here, board the Shangri-La Express private train and settle in for the trip across China.
Days 6-8: Xi'an, Luoyang
Visit the most enduring symbol of the ancient Chinese Empire - the Terra Cotta Warriors in Xi'an. Then tour the Yellow River Valley city of Luoyang, an ancient capital of China.
Days 9-11: Beijing
Arrive in Beijing and spend a full day touring the classic sights of the city, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs and Tiananmen Square. Toast the journey at a farewell dinner before departing.
